HIVES

Here at Highland Bee Supplies we offer a varienty of hives and cater for keepers of all levels of experience. Our extensive range can be previewed below:

	NATIONAL The mostly widely used hive in the UK. Available with: Choice of floor. Mesh floor for varroa control or a solid floor. Choice of roof. Shallow 4” deep. Deep 8” or gabled to look more like a WBC. This hive allows for the commercial beekeeper as it has a choice of brood chamber, 14X12” for larger brood area.
	SMITH A popular hive throughout Scotland the frames and foundation used are the same sizes as the National but the lugs on the frames are shorter.
	WBC The WBC is the most recognised hive and can be seen in many gardens throughout the country. Ideal for a open position as there is an outer set of boxes and the bees are contained in the inner boxes, there is a gap between the two layers, which allow air to circulate, this hive is also available with the larger brood chamber.
	COMMERCIAL This hive has a larger brood chamber as standard and if required a National super may be used in preference to the larger size of the Commercial super.
	DADANT The Modified Dadant hive was imported from America. It has a deeper frame than the Langstroth.
	LANGSTROTH The world's most commonly used hive. It gives a large area from brood and this can be increased by purchasing our Jumbo brood chamber (available in Cedar only).
	POLYSTYRENE Available in National size, a light hive easy to use. Available with a standard varroa floor.
	SKEPS A straw bowl which is used for collecting a swarm, we also have straw skeps which double up as a hive for use in a wall.
