COURSE DATES FOR 2010


Introduction to beekeeping

A course designed for the new beekeeper or beekeepers who have been keeping bees for a short time. The course covers all aspects of basic beekeeping, and will include a practical hive inspection - protective clothing will be provided where required. The course will run from 10am - 4pm and a light lunch is provided.

Queen control *

This course is designed to help you find, mark and "clip" your queen; learn to know the signs of a happy "queen right" colony and ensure maximum honey profuction. Course will run from 10am - 12:30pm and will be a practical within our apiary, so protective clothing will need to be worn. We can assist with this if necessary.

Swarm control *

The course is designed to demonstrate practical swarm control methods. It will run from 1:30pm - 4pm and will be a practical within our apiary, so protective clothing will need to be worn. We can assist with this if necessary.

NUC management

A course designed to assist you in enlarging your apiary, or just re-queen your older queens, and will cover selecting a colony, making up a "nuc", and building up the nuc colony. It will run from 1:30pm - 4pm and will be a practical within our apiary, so protective clothing will need to be worn. We can assist with this if necessary.

Honey harvesting & extraction

The course is designed to cover all aspects of your honey harvesting and extraction. It will run from 10am - 4pm and a light lunch will be provided.
