Our nucleus colonies are in very high demand, so early booking is recommended. We pride ourselves in delivering to the customer a nucleus that will exceed DEFRA recommendations.


Your 5  frame nucleus colony will be headed with a queen bred in that year, giving new beekeepers that chance to get used to handling their bees without the risk of swarming.


Our queens are selected for temperament, prolific brood pattern, low swarming and cleanliness.


Nucleus colonies are collected/sent by Parcelforce* in a specially designed travelling box, which is yours to keep, and the queen is marked and caged for safety during travelling. Queens will only be clipped if requested and booked in advance by the customer.




Please book early to avoid disappointment, a deposit of £50.00 is taken, and the balance is payable on collection/delivery which is usually June/early July

We raise a number of queen throughout the year and all are bred with our selection criteria in mind.

Firstly for a quiet temperament, but must also be prolific layers, we select from hives that we have had no swarming from, but they also must keep the hive clean, as we have found that these bees survive the winter much better and the queens start laying early in the season.


We also like to see the bees from our queens flying at lower temperatures as this allows for cleansing flights during the cooler days of spring, and warmer days of winter.


Queens are usually available from the beginning of May each year, but this is of course weather dependant. If you require an early queen, please ring for further details. We will post Queens worldwide, postage of queens is by Royal Mail Special Delivery in the UK and by International signed for Airmail for overseas. Postage is charged at cost.
